Twelve original songs on Anglo-French themes
British musician Tim O'Connor and I have been writing and performing songs together for about two years now. As we both live in France, most of these are comedy songs about French themes – a bit like my books "A Year in the Merde" or "1000 Years of Annoying the French", but in guitar-pop form.
Some song titles: "Can't Get No Savoir Faire" ; "Faux Pas" ; "No One's At Work Today" ; "Bayeux Tapestry" ; "Regis Envy (Revolution, Nice Idea".
We've recorded 20 or so of the songs, and have decided to release 12 of them on a vinyl-only album called "Entente Cordiale". No CDs or streaming. Pressing vinyl is much more complicated than streaming, but it's also more fun, and more aesthetically pleasing. Check out our Sergeant Pepper-inspired album cover.
We've played our songs in bars, a cultural centre, a town hall, a ballroom, a holiday centre, at a book fair and – with our only serious Anglo-French song – at two Armistice ceremonies.
We're planning lots more gigs, and the original plan was to sell the albums as merchandise. But we've decided to release some of the records early, so we're launching a Kickstarter project.
Support us and get your signed (or unsigned) album, a book of lyrics (containing lots more than the dozen songs on the record), or even a gig. Our gigs, by the way, are more than just concerts - we tell stories between songs, and – if the audience is not totally English-speaking – we even explain some of the jokes.
